Leading Sustainable Preservation in Evanston, Chicago, and Beyond

Sustainable Preservation explores the relationship between Historic Preservation and Environmental Sustainability–also referred to as Climate Resiliency–through the use of building science to analyze the performance of our existing structures and identify opportunities for enhancement without compromising their character defining features and historical integrity. Join us as we will explore how a few local projects, including Evanston’s own Charles Gates Dawes House, a National Historic Landmark, have succeeded in modernizing their facility operations with new energy efficient systems, building envelope improvements, and renewable energy sources.

About the presenter: AltusWorks is a woman-owned, technically oriented architectural design firm which applies a high level of expertise to the creative problem solving required for the restoration, adaptive reuse, rehabilitation, and expansion of existing and historic structures. It’s work is based on the concept that existing buildings are renewable assets that contribute to the economic development of communities through their revitalization.
